Wilton Course 1

After couple of years of baking & cake decorating, i was thinking of taking this profession seriously.
Being an engineer gives me job satisfaction & a steady flow of income, BUT nothing beats the joy of working from home at your own pace, doing your passion & creating beautiful creation of arts on a canvas called cake.

Well finally after much thoughts, i enrolled myself on the Wilton Basic Decorating Course. At least, by doing this, i can polish further my decorating skills & whats more important is the certification from the renowned Cake Decorators.

6 May 2012, 10.30 am to 12 noon was my first class. Class lesson were done by Mdm Ambika Menon. So what all the participant got was Lesson 1 Guide Book and a complete set of Lesson 1 tools (Wilton tips, bags, templates & etc)

Lesson 1: Is all about Introducing Wiltons Buttercream recipe. Adjusting the buttercream to the required consistency. I have used Wiltons buttercream before i've joined the class, but its okay to go through it officially for once.

Later during the day, we mixed all the colors and started piping stars on some biscuits. It was fun working with Wiltons colour gel. I have used other brands, but Wilton gives the best shades of all the colors, as you can see above their pretty colours formation.

Homework for lesson 1: All of us are required to bake an 8 inch cake, any flavour of your own choice & ice the cake with buttercream & bring the cake for more decors during the class session...

Sounds awesome, cant wait for next week to come for more..

Mickeymouse collection..

Both my nephew are a big fan of mickeymouse.
For the eldest nephew's birthday, i made him mickeymouse cupcakes...
This was butter cupcakes with butter frosting.
He was basically digging onto all the cupcakes..and licking the creams of...children oh children :)

For second one's birthday, i decided to bake him a mickeymouse club house cake.Doing a club house cake has always been something that i wanted to work on, being a mickey mouse fan myself..

This was a 2 -tier cake with butter cake and moist chocolate cake. 2 different flavors to give different flavor to the cake..And it was covered fully with fondant...All the decoration items are edible..

Well it took a lot of time to decorate the cakes, but it was all worth it.. Upon completion, there was a big wow from everyone..

And ultimately the boys loved it..They have been asking for mickey mouse cake every now and than..
